Bug fix in Wizz RSS 4.0 beta

August 6, 2010
By Mike

Obviously those who have been testing Wizz RSS 4.0 beta haven’t been doing a very good job ;)

Today I picked up a bug that impacted on adding feeds using drag and drop. The constant DESCRIPTION_ANNO is now, in Firefox 4.0b2, defined as PlacesUIUitls.DESCRIPTION_ANNO

The bug would also have impacted on importing Firefox Livemarks into Wizz RSS, and possibly other parts of Wizz RSS too.

I have patched the Wizz RSS 4.0 beta release with a fix. If you have already installed Wizz RSS 4.0, please reinstall it to get the patched code.

You can get Wizz RSS 4.0 here.

    Hi!

I think I found another bug (or feature?)… Each time I open the WizzRSS sidebar, I get a pop-up message:
“Firefox is set to clear your browsing history on shut down.
Wizz RSS will lose the read/unread status of feeds and items between sessions.”
In some cases (like mine, described here) this is a false alarm…
“Clear history when Firefox closes” is enabled under the Options/Privacy tab, but I unchecked the “Clear browing history” checkbox, so browsing history will not be deleted at all but I still get the warning message. (Of course when I uncheck the “Clear history…” thing, I get no such messages)
    (FF4.0b2 + WizzRSS 4.0 beta, Win7)

    Thanks :)

Thanks nermal! The prefs used by FF to indicate these conditions did change in 4.0b2, so it’s very possible that I screwed something up somewhere. I’ll look into it.

BTW, you can disable the irritating message (Which is specifically targeted at the brain-dead). See http://www.wizzrss.com/helpwiki/index.php/Annoying_messages

@nermal: I’ve just patched the 4.0 beta code with a fix. To make the false alarm go away, just reinstall 4.0.

The problem was there are two prefs that indicate browser history being deleted on shutdown. i.e. privacy.sanitize.sanitizeOnShutdown and privacy.clearOnShutdown.history. I was only looking at privacy.sanitize.sanitizeOnShutdown

Thanks, it was a really fast bugfix. Works like a charm :)

Reading feeds and adding feeds works great so far, except the scroll bar but I use the mouse scroll instead.

Yeah, sorry but I can’t fix the scroll bar bug, but it looks as if Boris Zbarsky is working on it. Which, hopefully, will result in it being fixed in 4.0b3.
