@Blue Sun: The nag page was never intended to be a nag page, and it was certainly never intended to coerce people into making a contribution. The original function of the nag page was to inform users, very occasionally, of important updates, changes and/or vulnerabilities that had been patched.

Unfortunately the majority of open source software users don't think the way that you do. Unfortunately the majority of open source users are selfish, greedy, and unthinking people, who, for some weird reason, seem to believe that they have a RIGHT to free software. Unfortunately it is also true that many Firefox users feel they have a RIGHT to use ad blocking add-ons, which block the very revenue stream that people like myself use to cover the costs of providing a free service, thus the nag page.

I can also assure you that contributions made by various users of Wizz RSS, don't even come close to covering the costs that I pay, out of my own pocket, every single month. So the logic is simple: If you don't like the nag page, are unable to make the code changes to stop the nag page from displaying, and/or are not in a position to make a contribution, then go get yourself another feed reader.

Seems easier just to make a contribution ;).

@jimi When you unzip {D5EDC062-A372-4936-B782-BD611DD18D86}.zip, you'll find a folder called Chrome. wizzrss.jar is in there. It feels like playing with those Russian matryoshka or babushka dolls, the ones where each time you take a doll apart, there's a smaller one inside ;)

I still don't understand why the wizzrss people still left that bogosity in 4.0. I don't mind contributing to a well-done product (I am a software developer myself), but I am always resistant when somebody uses an inconvenience (like getting rid of ads or the infamous nag page) to fish for a contribution.

Ahhhhh... Okay I just had a look :) I guess I should have had a look when Blue Sun reported a problem, but having a look means shutting down Ubuntu (where I only have FF3) and booting Windows (Yuk!)

Right, here is what you need to do: -

1. In the same place you'll find a file called {D5EDC062-A372-4936-B782-BD611DD18D86}.xpi
2. Rename {D5EDC062-A372-4936-B782-BD611DD18D86}.xpi to {D5EDC062-A372-4936-B782-BD611DD18D86}.zip and unzip it.
3. After unzipping {D5EDC062-A372-4936-B782-BD611DD18D86}.zip, you'll find wizzrss.jar.
4. Continue as per other instructions.
5. After re-zipping wizzrss.jar you'll need to repack everything into the .xpi. Hope that makes sense.

As BlueSun said above.
I have also installed 4.0, and there is no wizzrss.jar file to modify to remove the NAG. The published method worked fine for all versions of 3.x, but for 4.x, there doesn't seem to be the same file system. Help!

I have successfully modified toolbox.js on each successive version of FireFox 3.x. However, I downloaded 4.0 this week and the experimental WizzRSS 4.0 version. It works perfectly, but I can no longer get rid of the nag page as there is no wizzrss.jar or toolbar.js that I can find in my profile.

Is there someplace else I need to look for the experimental 4.0 version?

@Sheila: You download the nag free version here: - http://www.wizzrss.com/dlnn.php

Supply the same email address you used to make the donation.

Mike,

Paypal finally accepted one of my credit cards and I did make a donation (Receipt Number: 0318-7408-2219-8758) 2 days ago, but I haven't gotten the nag free version from you yet. Please send it...

Errrrmmmmmm... Are you sure that you repacked the .jar file correctly? I'm using exactly the same patch and all the buttons work just fine. Unless it's some funny with portable Firefox.
