Wizz RSS 3.2.0.0 beta for Firefox 3.6
A few minor changes were necessary to get Wizz RSS working with Firefox 3.6b1 - As usual it was the Places stuff that changed (long deep sigh).
Anyway, once again I’m asking Wizz RSS users to test 3.2.0.0 on Firefox 3.6b1. I’m pretty sure that my request to test will, as is usually the case, fall on deaf ears. Of course testing is always someone else’s problem - WRONG! We’d all like to see a smooth upgrade to Firefox 3.6, so please help with testing!
Yes you can test! It doesn’t take any special skills! Just upgrade to Firefox 3.6b1 and install Wizz RSS 3.2.0.0 - Easy! If you find any bugs, report them into this blog and I’ll fix them as quickly as I can.

Why uninstall?

Wizz RSS, both full version and lite, contain security vulnerabilities. If you don’t uninstall Wizz RSS, you will be exposing yourself to potentially malicious attack.

Does this affect the beta too? I was going to try it out but the link goes nowhere.

All versions are affected, and the beta has been taken offline.

Ah that’s a shame, I’ll keep an eye out for an update. Cheers,

Sorry, but there will be no further updates.

Sad to see that you have decided to abandon Wizz RSS. I realy was a great tool.
I still hope to hear from you again in some form or other.
Best wishes to you from Switzerland!

I agree, thanks for the work you put in over the years. I wish you all the best for the future.

@Max: As a longtime Wizz RSS user I sure that you, more than most, will have some idea of the frustration I’ve put myself through over the last 5 years. Firefox, the people and the browser, is no longer what it was 5 years ago. I’ve learned enough about my own stupidity, and the stupidity and selfishness of others, to know that I have much better things to do with my life

Mike,
Indeed I do and I understand!
I am an IT dinosaur myself, with over 25 years of experience, I know exactly what you’re going through.
Thank you very much for the hard work that went into Wizz RSS and the best of luck to you and your family in the future!

Any possibility of a hint about what the vulnerability is, so that users might attempt to defend against it on our own?
November 13th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
@Anne: Sorry, but disclosure of details about the vulnerability could potentially expose thousands of users to the malicious intent of others.

Mike,
I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve decided to allow Wizz to die
- I only just noticed an extra tab in FF for http://www.wizzrss.com/Welcome.php and so came here to check out what was happening.
I think that I can sense an immense amount of frustration in your words up above, so it’s likely for the best that you allow the project to die. Anyway, a hearty thanks for all of your work upon it - Wizz introduced me to the fun of using RSS feeds, and for that I’ll always be grateful to you.
Wishing you all good things for the future, and best regards
Mike K (UK)

Aaaaargh! Nooooo! I had hoped that your website was hacked and that the message was a hoax.
So sad. Thanks for all of the great work over the past few years

For a more detailed explanation of why Wizz RSS is being shutdown, please read http://wizzrss.blat.co.za/2009/11/14/an-explanation/

I’m very sorry to hear about your problems with Wizz RSS, and your decision to shut down the project. Wizz was the only reason I actually started using RSS at all - I’ve found all other RSS readers totally useless. Only Wizz did it right, as far as I’m concerned. Thanks for all your efforts!

@MIKE, I’m sorry that you were pushed into this situation. Thanks for your work! Best of luck.
@ALL, its a rare breed of people who burn their time & energy for the benefit of others, whatever the capacity. If the ones at the top of the food chain had half the sincerity, the world would be a different place. I had FF in high esteem until now.
