2.9.4: More bugfixes

Thanks to everyone who has been testing and reporting bugs. I appreciate all the feedback. It goes a long way to helping to make Wizz RSS better and more stable.

Right, 2.9.4 has been patched to fix six more bugs, and they are as follows: -

  1. Thanks to BlueHawk for reporting this one: When using the Open Unread in New Tabs functionality, Wizz RSS was trying to open the feed title as an HTML page.
  2. When trying to add a category to the root of the Category/Feed tree, Wizz RSS was falling over. This was caused by a change in the underlying Places code.
  3. When trying to add a feed to the root of the the Category/Feed tree, Wizz RSS was falling over. This was caused by the same problem as the above-mentioned bug.
  4. When using Wizz RSS for the first time, the Public List import would fail. This was also being caused by changes in the underlying Places code.
  5. Feeds marked as watched were not displaying the watched indicator in the Category/Feed tree.
  6. A regression bug: When reading all feeds in a category, if the last feed read failed, no feed items were being displayed.

There are still a few outstanding issues that need to be taken care of. I should sort them out within the next few days.

first off, thank you for the effort to make Wizz RSS available for firefox 3 beta.

I have been using Wizz RSS for a long time and was very satisfied. Now, I switched to firefox 3 and the Wizz RSS 2.94. I found it became much slower when I selected a feed. It would take about 7 seconds to just show the feed while in firefox 2 it was almost instant (I compared side-by-side with the same feed in both versions). During that 7 seconds, I noticed the HD LED is blinking heavily.

Can you look into this and try to get some improvment? 7 seconds (for a feed that only has 10 items) is just very annoying.

Again, thanks for your great work.

    mj,

There have been a few people complaining about the speed. There is only one thing that I know of that could cause the problem. If you were using 2.9.3 there was a bug that is documented here – http://wizzrss.blat.co.za/2008/03/14/getting-rid-of-item-description-accumulations/

If that doesn’t solve the problem, then I have no idea what’s causing it. I haven’t, as yet, experienced any speed problems. Not being able to replicate the problem means it’s pretty difficult for me to diagnose its cause.

I have just upgraded wizzrss from 2.9.3 to 2.9.4. This is not accepted as compatible by Firefox 3 beta 5. In addition (having reverted to Firefox 3 beta 4), I still cannot get the read status icons to “stick” unless I actually read a news item. If I “mark all items read” or “mark this item read”, the icon(s)initially change colour, but when if I go to another feed and then return to the original one, the icons have (often)reverted back to green. I do like wizrss – apart from this one problem, which makes it unlikely I can continue with it.

Prior to Firefox 3, I was using the Sage RSS feeder, and am therefore very interested in your attempted port to Firefox 3.

I am using Vista Home Premium, with Kaspersky Internet Security 7, PC Tools Spyware Doctor 5 and MS Windows Defender.

    Wizz is great.
    But there is beta 5.
I hope theres just the compatibility test to update.
